Ashkan Ghassemi, better known as Trashkan, has been deeply rooted in techno culture since 1993—through all its highs and lows. Inspired by artists such as Sven Väth, Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Luciano, and SIS, he developed a driving, hypnotic Minimal Tech House sound.
Well known for countless festival and club performances across the Frankfurt area, he left an early mark on the scene, most notably with the legendary record store Delirium.
Today, he is the owner of Sugarbar and the founder of the label Music Is Not Fashion.
MR. ROD
Mr. Rod has been immersed in electronic music since the late 1980s. His club education took place in iconic venues of the Rhein-Main area such as Dorian Gray, Music Hall, and Vogue (later Omen). In the early ’90s, he began producing his own tracks together with Dr. Nick & J, heavily influenced by 303 sequences and a self-built MIDI studio.
After releasing several four-to-the-floor 12” records on regional labels, his focus shifted toward his second great passion: Ambient music. In 1995, Phonosynthese was founded. The longplayers Lebenstrom and Waldall, released on Elektrolux in 2002 and 2005, are still regarded as timeless ambient works.
Today, Mr. Rod is firmly back on the dancefloor, responsible for the resident sound at Level 6 Club in Darmstadt. Together with Paul Brtschitsch and Malte, he released the 12” Grow on Resopal, including remixes by Jackmate and Marek Hemmann.
Alongside his longtime collaborator Alex Azary, he also launched a cooperation with Shayde, a project by Phillip Lenz (Delenz) and Richard Hœtter. Their debut track Jupiter Swing was released in 2017 on the legendary Connaisseur Recordings.
As part of the Rootknox family, Mr. Rod lives out his “hyperactive” creativity as a DJ, producer, artist, and the creative force behind many video productions for Rootknox releases. His DJ sets span a wide range of electronic styles—guaranteeing a constantly evolving dancefloor experience with no room for boredom.
